Over 18 years of extensive experience in education, leadership, and environmental advocacy, Huma Syed is a distinguished educator and author whose journey reflects a deep commitment to holistic and sustainable learning. She brings an extraordinary blend of academic excellence, hands-on leadership, and global exposure to her work with students and fellow educators alike.
A Postgraduate in Environmental Management from IISWBM, Calcutta, and
holder of multiple prestigious qualifications including an Education Leadership Programme from IIM Calcutta, Post Graduate Diploma in School Leadership and Management and a B.Ed. from IGNOU, she also holds a B.Sc Honors degree in Botany from AMU, Aligarh and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Mumbai. Her solid academic foundation is matched by a rich teaching career spanning premier institutions like Nasr Boys School, Hyderabad and Birla Open Minds International School where she currently serves as Senior Headmistress.
Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in fostering student engagement beyond the classroom. As Head of the Science Department,
coordinator of international educational exchange programs, and mentor to numerous student-led initiatives and global conferences—from Dubai to UCLA,
Singapore, and Indo-German collaborations—she has shaped students into globally-aware, environmentally-conscious citizens.
An appointed Co-Chief Examiner for Environmental Applications by the ICSE Board since 2018, she has also served as an examiner and guest speaker at
multiple conferences, including at The Doon School, Dehradun. Her research papers presented at SCERT, NCERT RIE Ajmer, and RIE Mysore reflect her
passion for innovative science teaching and sustainable education practices.
Awards
Her contributions have been recognized at national levels. She is the recipient of the Derozio Award for Education and Human Enrichment (2019) by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations—one of the highest honors for educators in India. She has also been awarded the Best Teacher Award (2019) at the Indian School Awards and received accolades from VR Oneness Foundation for excellence and promotion of educational values.
